AP Physics rewards a very specific exam craft: knowing the few big principles cold, and writing free-response answers the way the College Board rubric pays out. Strong students routinely lose 5s not on the physics, but on units, sign conventions, and the gap between "explain" and "justify". That gap is coachable.
The four AP Physics exams ask for different things, and the right preparation looks different for each:

Physics C is where calculus and physics collide. Most lost marks live exactly there — taking derivatives of position for motion, integrating charge for fields and potential. I teach the calculus and the physics together, so the maths becomes a tool, not a second exam.
FRQs are scored point by point against a published rubric, and the rubric rewards a structure: name the principle, write the governing relation, then substitute with units. We drill released College Board FRQs, mark them exactly as a reader would, and fix the quiet habits that cost points — missing units, dropped signs, "describe" answers to "justify" prompts, and skipping the algebra before plugging numbers.
The MCQ section rewards clean concepts under time pressure. We build that with timed sets, distractor analysis (the wrong answers are designed around the common misconception), and fluency with the equation sheet so you spend thinking time on physics, not on hunting for a formula.
A focused sprint still moves most students up a grade — we attack the highest-weight units and the FRQ method first. The diagnostic sets the priority order.
